While being in the midst of this catastrophic situation, just hearing the word pandemic, can have a tremendous impact on our mental health. The distress experienced during these current times can impact our ability to sleep, affect our appetite, increase our worries about finances, and question our job security to name a few.
Previous history of alcohol or substance use may become more apparent as a way to cope. Perseverating on your own well-being and those you love can take its toll.
For those living with mental illness, the stress and anxiety caused by the pandemic may cause one’s symptoms to be more prominent, and normal coping strategies may not be as effective during these times. It’s important to reach out for additional resources in your community to help get you through these trying times.
Remember to always take care of your emotional health as well as your physical well-being.
